Meet Holly

At ten months old, when most children are learning how to crawl and walk, Holly moved her arm for the very first time.

Her parents, Daniel and Lara, cried tears of joy for their baby girl who was born with a disorder that severely affects her movement, muscles and joints.

Now seven years old, Holly has had a series of operations at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead to help manage her condition, the first on her feet at just seven months old and recently a back operation to lengthen growing rods inside her spine.

“Holly is always amazing us. Her condition affects every joint in her body – her spine, neck, hips, knees, ankles and all the joints in every finger. Even though she has no movement in her wrists or fingers, she has taught herself to write”, Lara said.

You can help provide life-saving care to thousands of children and families who turn to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead for help in their time of greatest need by supporting the 2012 Bandaged Bear Appeal.

“What sets The Children’s Hospital at Westmead apart is teamwork. You cannot achieve amazing results if you don’t have specialised teams working         hand-in-hand.

Because we’re a public hospital, each team relies on the generosity of our donors for the purchase of equipment and to support therapies like physiotherapy and occupational therapy. We also need to fund further research to look behind what is going on for children with disabilities like Holly’s because there are so many questions still not answered.”
