  • What is Bandaged Bear DayTM?
    The Bandaged Bear DayTM Appeal is a major fundraising appeal for The Children's Hospital at Westmead. Merchandise is on sale at a variety of outlets throughout NSW and the ACT for the month of March. Friday 26 March, Bandaged Bear Day, is the highlight of the Appeal with hundreds of volunteers on the streets selling the bright and colourful merchandise. The Hospital relies heavily on the support of the community to make this day an overwhelming success. Bandaged Bear Day also provides the community with the opportunity to hold their own fundraising event. Why not organise a party celebration with friends, family, work colleagues or at your school? The funds you raise will make a huge difference to the lives of sick children and their families at The Children's Hospital at Westmead

  • Where does the money raised go?
    All proceeds raised from the sale of Bandaged Bear Day merchandise and the donation of funds from events and personal donations go directly to The Children's Hospital at Westmead. The funds are directed to the areas of the Hospital most in need at the time. Every dollar we receive goes directly toward supporting the amazing work done at the Hospital and ultimately impacts directly on the lives of sick kids and their families.

  • How do I order merchandise?
    Merchandise can be ordered in various ways. Use our easy online order form Call the Special Events Team on (02) 9845 3364 Download the merchandise order form from our website, complete and fax back to (02) 9845 2233. Please note that you need to sign for the merchandise on delivery. A street address must be provided for delivery to occur.

  • Can I order more merchandise if I run out?
    Yes you can! Additional merchandise can be ordered online, via phone or fax. The quickest option for re-ordering is via our online order form. Please ensure you mark the 're-order' box on the form. Merchandise will be sent within a few days to the allocated address.

    The Bandaged Bear Day Appeal runs throughout the month of March. Don't forget that you can start to sell your merchandise as soon as you receive it. Merchandise can be sold for the whole of March.

  • Where can I sell merchandise?
    Merchandise can be sold to friends, school mates, community groups, work colleagues or anyone else you may know! If you wish to sell merchandise in a public area, such as a shopping centre or train station, please register as a volunteer. This will ensure that a permit and the relevant insurance is organised for you. If you are registering as a volunteer, you do not have to order your own merchandise to sell. Please refer to further information on this topic listed under the 'Volunteering' heading. We do not encourage people selling merchandise door-to-door for safety reasons. If you wish to do this, please contact the Events Team so a permit can be organised.

  • Do I need a special permit to sell merchandise?
    If you are just wanting to sell merchandise to work colleagues, family and friends you do not need a permit. You will be provided with an official acknowledgement letter with your merchandise to verify your support of the Appeal, if required. You will require a special permit/ identification tag if you wish to sell your merchandise door-to-door or if you are selling your merchandise in a public area, such as a shopping centre, train station etc. If you have registered with us to volunteer on Bandaged Bear Day at a shopping centre, train station or other public space, we will automatically provide you with this identification tag.

  • I have ordered merchandise, but it has not arrived yet. What should I do?
    To ensure you receive your merchandise in time for the start of the Appeal, 1 March, please place your order by 19 February. Orders will be accepted after this date and will be delivered in early March. These orders will be processed on a first come first serve basis. If you have ordered merchandise prior to 18 February and have not received it by 5 March, please contact the Events Team. In normal circumstances, orders placed after the 1 March, should be received within five working days. This may vary, depending on the location the merchandise is being freighted to. If you have any queries regarding the delivery of your merchandise, please contact the Events Team. Please note that you need to sign for the merchandise on delivery. If you were not at the delivery address when the courier arrived, a calling card may have been left. This card will provide you with the necessary details to call the courier company to organise re-delivery at a suitable time.

  • What do I need to do at the end of the Appeal?
    Paperwork with specific instructions on where to return merchandise and the methods of banking money will be provided with each order. At the end of the Bandaged Bear Day Appeal you need to ensure that: All unsold stock is returned to the warehouse, All money is banked Please ensure that your supporter number is included on any stock returned as well as against any direct deposit made into the Appeal account. This is the only way we can track who has sent the merchandise or deposited the money into our account. . If you have misplaced your paperwork please contact the events team, who will organise to resend the necessary paperwork, or relevant details to you.

  • How do I return unsold merchandise?
    At the completion of the Appeal, all unsold stock needs to be returned to the Bandaged Bear Day warehouse located at Norwest Business Park. Merchandise boxes do not need to be returned. Please recycle these and only return the unsold merchandise. Please refer to the paperwork provided with your order for specific return details and the return slip that must be sent with the stock If you have misplaced your paperwork please contact the events team, who will organise to resend the necessary paperwork, or relevant details to you.

  • How do I return the money I have raised?
    There are various ways that money can be deposited to the Hospital. These include: * BPAY * Bank Deposit * Cheque OR money order (please make payable to The Children's Hospital at Westmead) *Credit Card Please ensure that your supporter number is included on any cheque/ money order payment or against any direct deposit made into the Appeal account. This is the only way we can track who has deposited the money into our account. The paperwork sent with your order has all the relevant banking information included on it, along with your supporter number. If you have misplaced your supporter number or paperwork, please contact the Events team, who can re-issue you the paperwork.

  • Will I get a receipt? And can I issue receipts?
    Once you have finalised your account at the completion of the Appeal, a receipt will be forwarded to you to acknowledge the amount you have raised. Any tax deductible amount will be shown on this receipt If any of your family or friends require a receipt for their donation or purchase, please contact the Events Team. We can organise to have an acknowledgment book sent to you which, when returned, will provide us with the necessary information to issue a receipt. Alternatively, you can provide the donor's details to us and we can organise to have a receipt sent when your account is settled.

  • If I am volunteering to sell merchandise on Bandaged Bear Day do I need to organise my own merchandise?
    No, you do not have to organise and order your own merchandise. In most instances there will be other volunteers at the same location. We will organise to have the relevant amount of stock delivered to your location, based on the time volunteers will be there, the number of volunteers registered and how busy the location will be. You will be provided with information on where to collect this and what to do with any leftover stock at the end of your shift.

  • Can you tell me more about the child on the poster?
    Zali is a bubbly two year old who loves to laugh. At age 18 months she was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis - a severe disorder of the immune system that requires chemotherapy treatment. Children in the first two years of diagnosis only have a 20% survival rate. During the four months Zali spent in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) she was intubated and ventilated to help her breathe and suffered major organ failure eight times. Whilst in PICU doctors also discovered that Zali had a condition known as calcification of the heart and lungs, a complication causing them to harden. Zali continued to deteriorate but her family had not lost hope. With a number of different specialised teams working on her, the family was offered a life-changing option. It was called Pamidronate, a medication typically used for children with osteoporosis. It would be the first time this treatment would be used for this particular condition. Four days after being given the medication Zali was running around the ward and laughing like she used to. "They say it takes a village to raise a child - it took 15 groups of experts to save Zali's life," said Zali's grateful mum Lisa. "Without their extraordinary skills we would have had a funeral for our two year old by now. The Hospital gives unconditionally." Zali's virus is now inactive and she is in complete remission. She is no longer an inpatient at the Hospital but visits four times a week for physiotherapy and occupational therapy and fortnightly for a check-up.
